National Training Inspectorate for Professional Dog Users

NTIPDU were proud to be one of the sponsors of the A1 K9 UK Challenge 2006

Sponsors of the event were Arden Grange, John Humphris, NTIPDU, BIPDT and of course A1 K9.

Congratulations to Charles and Gaynor of A1K9 for organising a successful day bringing dog handlers together to demonstrate their abilities. Everyone who attended was given the opportunity to see an event carefully planned and put into practice, from the excellent health and safety provisions to the catering facilities.

Saturday 30th September 2006 saw the A1 K9 UK Challenge 2006 take place in Pontarddulais with typical ‘Welsh’ weather, rain, sun and wind but this did not dampen the spirits of either the competitors or the spectators.

The day started with a briefing from Charles and the judges for the day; John Humphris (John Humphris Ltd.) and Jim Gould (Sgt, South Wales Police Dog Section). The obedience and agility section were conducted simultaneously with Jim judging the obedience and John judging the agility. Trophies were available for the winner of each section; Mark Adams from Heath Working Dogs won the obedience trophy with his 3-year-old GSD Tyson and Mick Tustain from Wandsworth Parks Police won the agility trophy with his 4-year-old Malinois Ike.

Following a well-earned break for lunch, all the competitors and spectators congregated behind the fenced off field ready for the final section ‘Manwork’. Gaynor and her faithful GSD Rauk treated everyone to an expertly conducted demonstration of this exercise. Once again a trophy was available for the winner of this section and was won by Mick Tustain.

The prize giving ceremony took place with the winners of each section collecting their trophies and the overall top three competitors collecting their trophies and prizes.

Mick Tustain took First place overall, winning him the 1st Place Cup and £250.00, Peter Branch from Caesar Security with his 4-year-old Malinois Meg took Second place overall, winning him the 2nd Place Cup and £100.00 and Ron Stanley from Heath Working Dogs with his 4-year-old GSD Duke took third place overall winning the 3rd Place Cup and £50.00. With all profits derived from this event being donated to Macmillan Cancer Support, the aforementioned winners promptly donated their prize money, which boosted the amount raised to in-excess of £2000.00.

The NTIPDU would like to thank both the competitors and the spectators for making this event a truly enjoyable day. The NTIPDU will definitely be one of the sponsors for the A1 K9 UK Challenge 2007.
