We are pleased to announce an addition to
the already growing portfolio of the NTIPDU.
With effect from the 1st October 2006
any NTIPDU handler wishing to move on to incorporate bite work within
their Continuation Training will be given all the necessary guidance
from instructors.
Any existing handler with experience and
knowledge may use their prior learning (at the discretion of the
instructor) to utilise this facility, gaining accreditation following
the successful completion of an NTIPDU assessment.
Some handlers may not wish to move on to the next
stage at the present time therefore this will be classed as an
addition to the basic course (not compulsory), once the instructor
feels the handler is experienced in the practical work a short exam
will be taken. Every successful handler will be issued with a
certificate of competence.
By incorporating this addition within the
continuation training the handler will not be expected to find
additional expenses.
Continuation training is at present 10 months out
of twelve, it has been suggested to reduce this in line with some
Police Force’s, we are therefore relaxing the time scale between
each CT session, (if a handler wishes to continue with monthly
sessions then the instructors will be available). As from 1st
October 06 CT sessions will be formally reduced to quarterly, as
before, if one quarter is missed the handler will be required to
retake the accreditation.
Detection Dog Handlers will still be
required to undergo monthly CT sessions.
